A Job Shadowing Opportunity Introducing The Trades
This year’s program dates are July 7th to July 25th, 2025. Upon participant selection, students will be assigned a day for their shadowing experience.
Program participants will spend one day shadowing a Miller's Services’s Mentor, focusing on one of the four trades Miller's Services offers: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, and Septic.
- Arrive on-site at Miller's Services’s Warehouse at 6:45 am
- Meet and depart with your assigned Miller's Services’s Mentor for the day
- Ride with your mentor to all assigned jobs for the day
- Return to Miller's Services’s Warehouse once all jobs are completed
- A full day-in-the-life-of experience with a trained service expert in the trade of their interest
- A low-stakes opportunity to help define their future career pathway
- An insider view of the Miller's Services System model, and the important role each team member plays in the success of a business with 100+ employees offering four trades to homeowners all over eastern Virginia
Are You Eligible For The Try The Trades Experience?
Take a close look at the requirements below to determine if you are eligible to apply for this amazing opportunity!
- Any student (public, private, or homeschooled) who is at least 16 years of age by July 1, 2025.
- The student must have their own transportation and a personal phone for communication purposes. While the start time each day is consistently 6:45 am, the end time is not.
- The student must be able to commit to the full day of job shadowing on their assigned date. If the student holds existing employment, they will need to be excused from working hours during their assigned day of experience.

After participating, students are notified of their selection, and a WBL Externship Agreement will be emailed to committed participants. This document is a mandatory requirement for participation in the Miller's Services Try The Trades and must be signed by a school administrator, a parent/guardian, and the student participant. Students must turn this document in on their assigned day.
